Negative Nelly

I need to apologize. Lately I’ve been a little on the negative side. I guess having an outlet for my thoughts is bringing out some things I usually keep hidden. I’m going to spend more time on the positive. Believe it or not, I’m a very upbeat dog. Read about my Tigger-ness here to see just what I mean. So today I’m going to focus on the positive. I have a family who spends every day with me. Sometimes they go to the beach or dance class or to church, but they come home and they snuggle me for awhile. I’ve stopped worrying they were going to abandon me, because they’ve proven they’ll stick around. I live in a place with no snow. You’d think a dog who looks so much like a wolf might not mind the snow, but I’ve heard about it and I don’t think I want to deal with it. I’m glad I’m where I am. I get the couch! One...

One of my biggest fears

Hi, I’m Shadrach, and I have a deep, dark fear. It’s not hidden. The family is well aware of this fear. I know this because they’ve started freaking out about it, too. My favorite place to sleep is right in front of the couch. Then I’m close to the action, close to getting petted, but with the benefit of the cool tile floor. But being close to the action also puts me at risk of getting stepped on. Boy is the worst at this, because when he sits on the couch, his feet aren’t anywhere near the floor. The others are problems from time to time, but it’s usually Boy. And it’s scary to feel a pair of feet coming onto my back! So I yell. And I nip. I should clarify, I would never nip hard enough to make it hurt. Even as I’m seeing my fears come true, I would never, ever hurt my beloved family. But I do use my mouth to tell them I was there first....

Disney Dreams

I’m not sure if I ever mentioned this before, but we live very near Disney World. I know, because the sign near our house says so. (don’t even ask how I can read. I have secrets I’ll never tell you) But do you want to know what? My family has never brought me to Disney! Sure, sure. They don’t allow dogs. But that’s just because they’ve never met me! I know they’d make an exception! Okay, to be completely honest, my family hasn’t been there since I got here, either. I hear them talk about “trading pins” and “cast members” and “favorite rides,” so I know they love it there, but for some reason they haven’t been! Personal Pizzas

Saturday, I overheard the kids talking about having a “prize” for cleaning up some of the house. It ended up being just Boy’s room (which meant they all 5 left me on the couch while they went upstairs, where I’m not allowed!). They all looked very pleased with themselves when they came out. Then Mama started making what she called “pizza dough.” And she got out all these yummy things: three kinds of cheese, turkey ham,…even the sauteed onions smelled good. They made individual pizzas. I couldn’t wait to see what they were putting on mine! (and secretly, I hoped they were going to leave off the dough). Twenty minutes later, the deliciousness was all out of the oven and getting cut into smaller pieces. I tried to tell BFF he didn’t need to do that for mine, but he kept right on cutting. Then…the worst thing in my entire life,...

Consistency

There are certain things that must happen at certain times. For example, after breakfast we will take a walk. The family chose that schedule, and I hold them to it. In my former life, I think I might have been a drill sergeant. Or if I wasn’t, I should have been. I also like to plan my meals around their meals. I like to eat when they do. It adds a sense of camaraderie. And they all tell me it’s cute. First thing in the morning, they all give me a huge greeting. Of course, that might be reflecting the joy I show in seeing them get up out of bed.  Nighttime is long! Pretty much, the rest of the day is one long nap. I refuse to use the term “cat nap,” because I am not a cat. So inconsiderate.

Nighttime Routine

Every night, Mama reads to the kids. Right now they’re reading Anne of Green Gables. I don’t really understand this tradition, but I’m okay with it because either the kids or Mama will pet me while they read. And it seems to make everyone really happy. Especially this book. Well… Boy doesn’t seem to care so much about Anne. He and BFF went into the “no” room and BFF read him from the Gospel of John because that’s what Boy wanted. Humans are quirky, but they’re cute!
