Hi, I’m Shadrach, and I have a deep, dark fear.
It’s not hidden. The family is well aware of this fear. I know this because they’ve started freaking out about it, too.
My favorite place to sleep is right in front of the couch. Then I’m close to the action, close to getting petted, but with the benefit of the cool tile floor.
But being close to the action also puts me at risk of getting stepped on.
Boy is the worst at this, because when he sits on the couch, his feet aren’t anywhere near the floor. The others are problems from time to time, but it’s usually Boy.
And it’s scary to feel a pair of feet coming onto my back!
So I yell. And I nip.
I should clarify, I would never nip hard enough to make it hurt. Even as I’m seeing my fears come true, I would never, ever hurt my beloved family. But I do use my mouth to tell them I was there first.
Mama has started yelling “Dog is there!” if one of the kids gets close to putting their feet where I already am. I appreciate that she tries! Maybe that will help me not be so worried about it, knowing she’s got my back (literally).
