Daytime

on Oct 19, 2015 in My Life Now

I have a great life. Mama, BFF, and the three kids are home with me all day, most days. Of course in the evenings, Mama is usually taking one or more of them to dance class… Or they all disappear to what they cryptically refer to as ” date night” (I don’t think it’s really a date because they don’t bring me a friend!)… Or they all go away and come back with bags and bags of food they won’t let me taste… So overall, I prefer the daytime to night. When they’re home, and they let me snuggle them or play with them whenever I’m in the mood (i.e. all the time). It’s a good system.

Getting into a Groove

on Oct 15, 2015 in My Life Now

We’re getting into a groove around here now. After breakfast, Mama and the kids take me for a walk. They no longer let me lead the way: mama insists I walk with her. She gives me treats when I do it well, so after the initial “YAY! It’s WALK TIME!!” that makes me want to run, I walk right next to her. …Unless we see another dog, or there’s a cat hiding under a car, or there’s a kid waiting for the bus. Then I kind of forget my job. They feed me at breakfast (after they eat) and at supper (after they eat). They put the food in the den, I eat it with my tail out of the den, and all is well. As long as they don’t try to close the door, I’m fine with the situation. There seem to be a few new things going on. They are trying to keep me out of the kitchen, and they are telling me I’m not supposed to use the lanai as my bathroom...

My Den

on Oct 12, 2015 in My Life Now

Mama and BFF bought me a den. It was too small. Even though I’m a toy, I’m tall. I couldn’t stand up in it. So they bought me a bigger one. This one is the right size. But I’m scared of it. They put my food in it, but then they tried to close the door while I ate. I had none of it. I have these dreams, or memories, or something, about being left in a room like this. Even though Mama was sitting right there, I still didn’t like that the door was closed. I wouldn’t eat until she’d opened the door, let me out, and snuggled me for awhile. This is going to take some...

I want to tap!

on Oct 8, 2015 in My Life Now

Shadrach talked about how much fun tap looked. I’m even more fascinated than he was. When the kids and Mama dance, I get right in on the action. My favorite is when they start moving around the floor making lots of noise. I want to do it too! I haven’t quite gotten stepped on yet. It must be a sign that I’m made to be a tap dancer!

Barking

on Oct 5, 2015 in My Life Now

Shadrach had a reputation for barking. The whole neighborhood heard him protecting the family from dangerous predators who would dare to walk down the sidewalk behind our house. I thought it was my job to take that job over. Unfortunately, my family finds my bark hilarious. My growl is intimidating for my size, but my bark…isn’t. Anyways, they’re also realizing dogs can learn better behavior. And guess who gets to be the guinea…dog? Yup. They spray me with water when I’m barking now. I’m getting the point. Mama tells me about Buffy, this mythical dog who was too stupid to learn anything. Apparently Buffy didn’t mind getting sprayed and would end up with a completely drenched face, and still bark. I’m not that stupid. I’m figuring it out. They don’t need my help. The neighbors don’t mean any harm. It’s making the...

All the Things

on Oct 1, 2015 in My Life Now

I want to try everything. Reputation has it that Shadrach wasn’t fond of veggies. I’m sure it’s just that he never tried them. Since I moved in with Family, I’ve tried zucchini, cucumbers, scallions, carrots, and yesterday mama (accidentally) let me have an uncooked noodle. Then there’s whatever Sunshine leaves on her plate (I love that she always forgets to clear her dishes! She’s the only one looking out for me) And do you know what? They were delicious! Well, with the exception of the scallion. I passed on that one. Lately I’m expanding my horizons even more. Mama’s pot holders were a yummy cotton yarn. She gets really mad when I try her camera strap, so I’m not sure yet if I like it, but I keep wanting to try. I’m a big fan of whatever clothes Princess leaves on the floor. Socks are equal parts fun and a snack. I wonder...
