Going for walks

on Oct 22, 2015 in My Life Now

Mama and the kids take me on a walk every day. They recognize the importance of exercise.
But they’ve apparently learned a lot since they had Shadrach. According to the talk around the house, they used to let him lead, pull, mark, and bark wherever and whenever he wanted. They figured he was too old to learn how to walk properly.
But they have higher standards for me. I’m not sure if I should be honored or frustrated. At this point it’s halfway in the middle.
After the first few houses, I settle in and behave the way Mama wants me to.
Unless I see a car (maybe they’re coming to visit me!)
or a squirrel (they might want to play in my yard!)
or a person (they might not realize Mama is MINE)
or a dog (they might think they can come visit without an invitation)
or a cat (they’re just evil).

Then I sort of kind of forget all the rules and pull until I can’t breathe.
Mama says she’s hoping it will be self-correcting. We’ll see.
