Confusion

on Jul 31, 2015 in My Life Now

Mama won’t like that I’m writing about this, but she’ll get over it. There are two couches in the Couch Room. The big one is the one I’m allowed on. The little one is usually occupied by books and toys. But the kids have started putting those things away, and yesterday I saw that it was wide open, asking me to take a nap on it. Mama quickly shooed me back off. But I thought, if the toys don’t need it anymore, now it’s mine, right? Sometimes her rules seem completely arbitrary. I love her anyhow, though.

Running Leaps

on Jul 29, 2015 in My Life Now

I’m not as tall as I need to be sometimes. Like when a dog and his Human walk down the sidewalk behind our house. I need to see if he be a friend or foe, but the fence is taller than I can jump. Even me, the king of jumping. So I’ve started using the backyard to get a running leap. Usually that first leap I can peek my nose up over the fence. The second time it’s a little harder, and the third and subsequent times I’m not even close. Mama’s a little concerned that I might knock over the mango before it’s quite ripe enough to come off of the tree, so I’ve started being a little more cautious…until I forget that it’s there in my excitement to meet a new friend.

More secrets exposed

on Jul 27, 2015 in My Life Now

I’ve hidden another secret for far too long. I’ve finally started to demonstrate something I’ve kept inside: I’m a lap dog. Not for very long periods of time, and only on the laps of the Big People in the house, but I do like to sit on Mama’s lap sometimes. It makes me feel so very loved and appreciated, and who doesn’t enjoy those feelings?

Fashion

This probably won’t surprise you nearly as much as it surprised me. I’m very aware of how I look. At my haircut, they put a handkerchief around my neck saying “I’m so handsome.” And oh, are they ever right! With that handkerchief on, I’m the most beautiful dog there is! Boy put it on me a few days after I got it and told Mama that I wanted it on. She scoffed. But a day later, when she picked it up, I came running over to her, tail wagging. I wanted it on! I wanted to look my very best! BFF was shocked to hear this, but then when he had it in his hand I nuzzled it, asking him to put it back on. They’re finally convinced, and now they let me wear it whenever they find it. (it’s a little loose and keeps falling off). I’m not going to think about what I’ll do when I wear it...

Haircut

on Jul 22, 2015 in My Life Now

Before I went to my new family, I got a haircut. Actually, it was more of a shave. It gave me a “puppy” look and was cool for the summer, but it quickly grew back. Drastic times called for drastic measures. My family took me for a cut again, to make sure I wasn’t going to overheat (this summer has been hotter than we usually have, and that’s saying something!). They’re also hoping it will help me to, uh, shed a little less. It was a long day to be forced away from them, but I was brave and behaved well. But oh, the joy when they came back for me!
